Footage has emerged showing a clash between bouncers and a clubgoer outside a bar in Cardiff city centre. The incident, which took place outside Boom Battle Bar in the Brewery Quarter during the early hours of Sunday, September 29, shows four doormen restraining the man, with two of them seen throwing punches at him.
South Wales Police is currently investigating the incident following complaints from both the customer and the doormen involved. The police responded to a complaint that the customer had assaulted one of the doormen, although this alleged attack was not captured in the video. Additionally, the customer also made a complaint of being assaulted, but later decided not to support a prosecution.
A spokesperson for Boom Battle Bar confirmed that the two security workers who threw punches are no longer working at the venue. The Cautela Diamond security company, which employed the workers, stated that the blood seen in the footage was due to the customer falling after trespassing into a restricted area.
The police are investigating an assault on a man in his 50s following a complaint made on October 11, relating to the incident on September 29. The investigation is ongoing, with licensing officers liaising with the venue management who conducted their own investigation.
The Cautela Diamond spokesperson claimed that the customer had shown aggression and hostility prior to the altercation, and alleged that the customer had assaulted members of the security team in an unprovoked attack. The customer was eventually removed from the premises by the police after repeatedly being refused entry due to disruptive behaviour.
Boom Battle Bar emphasised their commitment to safety and stated they do not condone violence. They have cooperated fully with the police investigation, providing CCTV and bodycam footage. Efforts to contact the customer for comment were not successful at the time of reporting.
This incident highlights the complexities involved in such altercations and the importance of thorough investigations to determine the sequence of events accurately. Additional details may emerge as the police inquiry continues, shedding more light on the circumstances surrounding the clash in Cardiff city centre.
