A former café on a busy Cardiff road that has been closed for years is set to reopen as a café and craft ale bar. The vacant Coffee and Cakes building on Caerphilly Road is slated to open as The Birch Brewhouse in October. Owners James and Jen Lovegrove have received positive feedback on their plans, particularly from parents seeking a meeting place near the local school. They believe their café and bar concept will cater to a demand for something different in the area.
Residents have expressed concerns about the potential impact of an additional drinking establishment on the neighborhood, advocating for the premises to be used for daytime cafes or shops instead.
