Former Bridgend Town councillor, Darren Brown, aged 35, has been accused of stabbing his wife, Corinne Brown, three times, while allegedly telling her, “This is what I do for love.” The incident, which took place on July 10 last year at their family home in Wildmill, Bridgend, has been detailed in court. While Brown denies attempting to murder his wife, who described him as looking like a “psychopath” during the attack, he admits causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The couple, who have two children and had separated, were involved in an argument prior to the stabbing. In the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, footage from a camera in Mrs Brown’s bedroom captured Brown questioning why she had pushed him to that point before the violent altercation occurred. Mrs Brown managed to lock herself in the bathroom after being stabbed, but Brown reportedly continued his attack by attempting to stab her in the neck.
Prosecutor James Wilson asserted that Brown’s intent was to kill his wife during the disturbing incident, pointing to various pieces of evidence supporting this claim. Meanwhile, defence barrister Kevin Seal argued that Brown’s actions were not intended to result in his wife’s death but rather to cause harm amid the emotional turmoil of their failing marriage.
Following the incident, Brown was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and Mrs Brown received medical treatment for three puncture wounds sustained during the attack. The trial continues as the prosecution and defence present their respective arguments in court to determine the outcome of this harrowing case.
