A man from Mountain Ash, Wales, has been branded as “base and grotesque” after he secretly filmed a woman performing a sex act on him without her consent, then proceeded to share the video with others. Kiean Pugh, 21, was found guilty of voyeurism following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court. The court heard that Pugh had recorded the woman engaging in consensual oral sex with him, but she had not consented to being filmed. Judge Paul Hopkins condemned Pugh’s behaviour, stating that the video was kept for Pugh’s own sexual gratification and referred to it as a “truly appalling trophy.”
During sentencing, Judge Hopkins expressed his disgust at Pugh’s actions, saying, “Your behaviour towards this young woman was utterly appalling. Your contempt for her privacy and dignity was clear.” Pugh not only showed the video to his friends but also bragged about his sexual conquests and claimed to have a list of girls he had slept with on his phone. The victim, upon being made aware of the video, was left in shock and devastated. In her victim impact statement, she detailed the mental anguish she suffered including insomnia, panic attacks, stress, and anxiety. The incident significantly impacted her ability to trust others and her self-confidence.
Pugh, who had no prior criminal record, was suspended from university and his golf club. His defence barrister, Ruth Smith, cited the family’s ongoing mental health struggles as a mitigating factor. Pugh was sentenced to three months imprisonment, suspended for 15 months, and ordered to complete a rehabilitation program, serve 200 hours of unpaid work, adhere to a curfew, and comply with sex offender notification requirements for seven years. The judge criticised Pugh for his “utterly pathetic inadequacies as a young man.”
