Eifion Humphries, 32, from Newtown, made a shocking discovery when his wife filmed him playing guitar – she found he had indecent images of children. This breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order marked the second time he was caught with such images. Humphries tried to delete the images when police visited his home unannounced. In 2023, Humphries had been convicted of possessing child abuse images, including disturbing photos involving young girls. He was initially caught when his wife used his phone to record him playing guitar.
During his sentencing hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, it was revealed that Humphries received a community order with conditions. Among these conditions, he was prohibited from deleting his internet history and had to have his electronic devices monitored regularly. Prosecutor Matthew Murphy shared that during a police visit in August, Humphries acted suspiciously by taking his phone to the toilet. The device later revealed deleted indecent images of children aged between eight and 10. Additionally, Humphries was messaging a woman with four children.
Humphries admitted visiting a chatroom out of boredom, where others sent him unsolicited indecent images. He confessed he would distribute the images if requested and deleted the Telegram app, which he was not allowed to do. In total, he possessed 41 category A images, 40 category B images, and 72 category C images. Humphries’ barrister, Sol Hartley, acknowledged his client needed help and accepted that prison time was inevitable. Judge Jeremy Jenkins sentenced Humphries to 24 months in prison, along with a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender notification for 10 years each.
