Karate Kid star and only son of Steve McQueen, Chad McQueen, has passed away surrounded by his family at his ranch in California. The 63-year-old actor, known for his role as Dutch in the Karate Kid films, died of organ failure, as confirmed by his lawyer Arthur Barens. Chad was the son of the legendary actor Steve McQueen and actress Neile Adams, who also had a daughter together, Terry, in 1959.
Chad McQueen’s life was intertwined with his father’s legacy, evident in his passion for racing cars and his ownership of a Porsche 356 Speedster that had belonged to Steve McQueen. Despite bearing the weight of his father’s fame, Chad made a name for himself in Hollywood, appearing in various TV shows and films centred around martial arts and action-packed adventures.
Chad McQueen’s interest in racing led him to a career as a professional race-car driver, competing in events like Motocross and the Baja 1000. However, a racing accident in 2006 resulted in severe injuries, including a broken lower left leg, fractured vertebrae, and multiple rib fractures, leading to progressive organ failure.
At the time of his passing, Chad McQueen was surrounded by his wife Jeanie Galbraith and their two children, Chase McQueen and Madison McQueen. Despite being approached to reprise his role in the Netflix show Cobra Kai, a revival of Karate Kid, Chad had retired from acting in 2001 and declined the offer.
