A man who stabbed another man to death over a drug debt is set to be sentenced today in Wales. The victim, Daniel Rae, aged 30, was fatally attacked by Kieran Carter, aged 22, at his home in Treforest, Pontypridd. The brutal incident occurred on December 17, when Carter barged into Rae’s bedroom and stabbed him four times in the leg, ultimately leading to Rae’s tragic death. Additionally, Rae sustained three wounds to his forearm during the frenzied assault.
During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Carter had messaged Rae in anger about the money owed for drugs. The messages indicated Carter’s determination to collect the debt, stating, “it’s long” if Rae failed to pay. Rae’s flatmates discovered him deceased, sitting next to a blood-soaked mattress. Despite attempts by emergency services, Rae could not be saved.
Witnesses reported hearing sounds of violence before Carter fled the scene. Carter was later seen with a knife in hand, which he disposed of. He then sought assistance for a cut on his hand at the residence of Chad Joy, 33, and Amy Jones, 37. Grace Dresser, 21, who transported Carter to a hospital in Birmingham following the incident, was found not guilty of assisting an offender, while Joy and Jones faced charges related to aiding Carter.
After a three-week trial, Kieran Carter was convicted of murder, while Joy was found guilty of assisting an offender, and Jones guilty of perverting the course of justice.
