Law expert says Oasis fans ‘may not get money back’ after ticket news

Law expert warns Oasis fans that they may not receive refunds for tickets purchased through unofficial channels, as the band issues caution about resale tickets. Ahead of the release of the final tickets for Oasis’ reunion tour, consumer champion Which? advised against buying inflated-price tickets from unofficial platforms. Lisa Webb from Which? highlighted the risks of purchasing resale tickets, noting that even legitimate tickets could be cancelled if sold above face value or outside official resale platforms such as Twickets or Ticketmaster Fan-to-Fan exchange.

Webb emphasised that buyers should only purchase tickets through authorised sellers to ensure entitlement to refunds in case of event cancellations. Secondary marketplaces like Viagogo and StubHub have witnessed listings for Oasis’ upcoming shows, with tickets being resold at significantly higher prices than their original face value. Viagogo defended its reselling practices as legal, citing it as a solution for fans facing issues on official ticketing websites during ticket sales for gigs.

Ticketmaster urged fans to use only its platform and Twickets for reselling purposes, cautioning against unauthorised resale channels. Following the release of tickets for Oasis’ reunion shows, numerous listings emerged on various platforms offering tickets at inflated prices. StubHub listed standing tickets for as high as £4,820, significantly above the original Ticketmaster price of £151.25. The escalating prices attracted attention after fans faced challenges securing tickets at face value due to high demand.

Fans are reminded to exercise caution when purchasing tickets and advised to use secure payment methods, like credit cards or PayPal, especially for transactions exceeding £100. By prioritising official resale channels and adhering to price guidelines, fans can protect themselves from potential scams and ensure their entitlement to refunds in case of cancellations. The band’s warning underscores the importance of purchasing tickets through legitimate channels to avoid financial loss and disappointment.
