A mother in Denton, Tameside, has expressed her disapproval of her daughter’s school after the 13-year-old girl was suspended for wearing trainers. Maisie Castle-Dalton, a Year 9 student at Denton Community College, suffered blisters from new school shoes on her first day back. In response, her mother sent her to school in plain black Nike trainers, which she wore without issue on Thursday. However, Maisie was told on Friday that she would be placed in supervision, a form of isolation for students, for continuing to wear the trainers. Refusing this measure, Maisie was suspended for the day.
Sammi Castle, Maisie’s mother, shared her frustration, stating that Maisie was not being naughty but merely had sore feet. Despite trying to resolve the situation by acquiring a doctor’s note, Sammi was reportedly met with lack of cooperation. The mother expressed concerns about the school’s strict policies, including restricting bathroom breaks and not allowing Maisie to return home when feeling unwell in the past.
Sammi mentioned previous issues with the school and raised accusations of ‘controlling’ behaviour. The school defended its actions, citing high expectations for student conduct and uniform adherence. They highlighted academic achievements and stated that they work closely with parents to uphold standards. In response, Sammi found the school’s discipline measures excessive and expressed doubts about her daughter’s future treatment at the institution.
