A man in Wales has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after assaulting his partner and a neighbour. Benjamin Bevan, with a history of violent offences, attacked his partner after she woke him from a stupor caused by alcohol and Valium. Following a domestic dispute, he punched, throttled, and stamped on her head. Bevan then turned his aggression towards a neighbour who tried to intervene, assaulting him with a pressure washer and biting him.
The court heard Bevan has a record of 91 previous offences, including a racially-aggravated assault and administering a poisonous substance to a prison officer. The prosecutor detailed the events of April 28, when Bevan carried out the assaults in Swansea. His partner suffered injuries including a cut lip and bruising, while the neighbour endured cuts and bruises, with concerns about potential infections from the bite.
The court was told that Bevan, who pleaded guilty, had a troubled childhood and struggled with substance misuse. The judge noted his prolonged violent behaviour and sentenced him to serve the prison terms consecutively, totalling three years and nine months. Bevan expressed a desire to move past his criminal behaviour, but the judge emphasised the need for him to address the underlying issues leading to his offending.
