A drug dealer running a ‘Spice’ drugs line in Cardiff has been apprehended by the police after attempting to discard his phone during the arrest. Hassan Hassan, aged 20, from Adamsdown, was identified by the Cardiff and Vale Organised Crime Unit as the sole operator of the drugs line that distributed crack and heroin. In a bid to evade capture, Hassan tried to pass the mobile phone central to the drug operation to another person as officers closed in on him.
The Metropolitan Police detained Hassan in London on July 17, during which he attempted to dispose of the incriminating phone. Subsequent forensic analysis of his phone by the South Wales Police directly linked him to the drugs line. Investigations revealed that Hassan had been sending mass text messages offering crack cocaine and heroin to around 100 individuals at a time.
Following his arrest, Hassan admitted to his involvement in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin. He appeared in court and was sentenced to 41 months in prison at Cardiff Crown Court. Hassan was just one of 25 individuals arrested by the Cardiff and Vale Organised Crime Team in July 2024. The enforcement operation led to the seizure of a quarter kilogram of crack cocaine, £17,000 in cash, and the closure of 21 drugs lines by South Wales Police.
The crackdown on illegal drug operations aimed to disrupt the distribution network and curb drug-related crimes. The effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies has resulted in multiple arrests and significant seizures of illicit substances and cash.
