A Jet2 flight heading from mainland Europe to the UK was diverted to Germany after a man died on board. The plane was on its way from Burgas, Bulgaria, to Liverpool when the tragedy unfolded. The flight LS3214 left Burgas for the UK at around 1pm local time on Monday, and the crew declared an emergency about two hours into the journey. The plane was then diverted to Cologne in Germany.
A medical team attended the plane once it had landed at Cologne. The man is reported to have suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead, despite the best efforts of passengers and crew to resuscitate him. A Jet2 spokesman said: “We can confirm that flight LS3214 from Bourgas to Liverpool John Lennon diverted to Cologne on Monday 16th September, due to a customer requiring medical assistance.”
“Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
The news came as a shock to passengers and crew onboard the flight, who had witnessed the tragic incident. The plane’s diversion to Germany disrupted the travel plans of those on board as they had to make an unexpected landing in Cologne.
