A man is being sought by police following a late-night sexual assault near Cardiff city centre that has left the victim traumatized and afraid to leave the house. The incident occurred in May this year when a woman, while walking from Pulse nightclub, noticed a man following her. The assault took place under the railway bridge close to Senghenydd Hall. The woman managed to escape to Salisbury Road, but the suspect fled the scene. The attack has had a profound impact on the victim, affecting her sleep and daily life.
Detective Inspector Daniel Todd, during an episode of BBC’s Crimewatch Live, appealed for information on the suspect. The police released a photo of a man captured on CCTV near the nightclub, entering shortly after the victim had left. DI Todd described the man’s actions of following and assaulting the victim, highlighting the lasting trauma inflicted on the young woman. He emphasized the importance of coming forward with any information regarding the suspect’s identity or whereabouts.
The assailant, described as middle Eastern in appearance, in his 20s, about 5ft 11ins tall, with dark hair and eyes, was wearing a beige gillet, white T-shirt, and dark trousers during the assault. Police have collected CCTV footage of the suspect’s movements before and after the attack, showing his deliberate actions in targeting the victim. Following the assault, the man was seen returning to the city centre, heading towards the Cathays area.
The case was featured on Crimewatch Live, with a victim impact statement revealing the ongoing distress experienced by the woman since the incident. The police continue to investigate the sexual assault in the Cathays area and urge anyone with information to come forward or contact South Wales Police at 101. The victim’s well-being and safety remain a top priority for the authorities as they work to identify and apprehend the suspect involved in this disturbing crime.
