A man turned up at a woman’s house with a knife, demanding she cook him a steak, and then headbutted her neighbour, a court heard. Alan Meredith, 40, who was banned from contacting his former partner, appeared at Newport Crown Court after these incidents. He was witnessed threatening another man during a row and then going to his ex-partner’s house with a knife on July 18. Despite being instructed to leave, he persisted, asking for a steak before assaulting the neighbour.
Meredith, highly intoxicated at the time, held a knife and a large bottle of alcohol. His defence stated that the visit was meant to be friendly, but he pleaded guilty to assault, breach of restraining order, and possession of a bladed article. Sentenced to 17 months in prison, the court considered his prior convictions, which included assault and possession of a weapon. The defence conceded wrongdoing and acknowledged the severity of the headbutt on the neighbour.
