Cameron Ismail was sentenced to four years and four months in prison for causing grievous bodily harm during the incident. Ismail’s belt had a heavy metal buckle and was used to strike his victim in the face, leading to the victim needing metal plates and screws in his jaw.
The altercation took place in a nightclub in Swansea, where Ismail was attacked and had his necklace stolen in the toilets. After the thief was ejected from the club, Ismail pursued him, eventually cornering him in a nearby alley and using his belt as a weapon. The assault left the victim with facial wounds, jaw fractures, and loosened teeth, requiring a three-day hospital stay for treatment.
During sentencing, the judge noted Ismail’s previous criminal record, which included convictions for violent offenses. Ismail claimed he was acting in self-defence and only intended to retrieve his stolen necklace. However, the court found his actions to be aggressive and disproportionate. Ismail was ultimately sentenced to prison and will serve a significant portion of the term before being released on licence.
