The Met Office has issued an eight-hour thunderstorm warning for 16 parts of Wales. The warning encompasses areas where up to 40mm of rain could fall within a few hours on Monday evening. These heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into southern parts of Wales, with a yellow alert from 4pm until midnight. Some places may receive 20-30mm of rain within two to three hours, and even up to 40mm in certain areas.
The temperature is forecasted to remain relatively mild for the time of year, with highs around 18°C. Wales can expect a mixture of sunshine and showers on Monday and Tuesday, with the heaviest showers likely in the west. Conditions are expected to be drier in the east of the UK. The Met Office advises that on Monday, scattered showers will develop into locally heavy showers, with more heavy rain expected in the evening spreading north.
Areas covered by the warning include Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and other regions. Looking ahead to Wednesday, BBC forecaster Elizabeth Rizzini warns that the remnants of Hurricane Kirk could affect parts of the UK. She highlights the potential for strong winds and heavy rain from the remnants moving into certain areas, along with the likelihood of blustery conditions down North Sea facing coasts as low-pressure systems pass through.
