Mother and son, Jordan Dixon, 26, and Michelle Dixon, 45, were involved in an altercation that resulted in a teenage boy outside a primary school in Newport sustaining a fractured cheek and eye socket. The incident, which occurred on March 7, saw the teenager being knocked to the ground by Jordan Dixon, leading to the need for surgery due to his injuries. Michelle Dixon was reported to have slapped the victim twice to the face, while shouting derogatory remarks at him, causing panic among parents collecting their children from the school.
At a sentencing hearing in Newport Crown Court, Prosecutor Jason Howells described how the victim, in a victim impact statement, expressed fear of leaving his house, experiencing nightmares and flashbacks of the violent attack. The incident had left the victim traumatised, leading to hospitalisation and surgery to address his injuries. Michelle Dixon pleaded guilty to assault by beating, claiming self-defense initially, while Jordan Dixon admitted guilt to inflicting grievous bodily harm. Jordan Dixon was sentenced to eight months in prison and ordered to pay £150 compensation and £500 in costs.
In mitigation, Jordan Dixon’s lawyer highlighted his remorse and intentions to support his pregnant partner, citing his client’s completion of educational courses during his time in custody. Michelle Dixon, a mother-of-six with fibromyalgia and mental health issues, was given a 12-month community order, a 12-day rehabilitation activity requirement, a two-month curfew, and instructed to pay £75 in compensation and costs of £500. The presiding judge condemned the attack as cowardly and vicious, cautioning Michelle Dixon she should have known better as a mother-of-six. Despite the prison sentence, Jordan Dixon was set for immediate release, serving the remainder of his term on licence.
