A multi-million-pound education facility in Cardiff may face delays in opening until 2027 due to its contractor going into administration. The construction of the Fairwater Campus had to be paused after ISG Construction Ltd faced financial difficulties. Cardiff Council, which oversees the project, revealed that work might not resume until March 2025, potentially pushing back the completion date to 2027.
The council had recently marked a milestone with the topping out of the Fairwater Campus project before the contractor’s issues arose. Cardiff Council is now working on a plan to transfer the existing contracts to a subcontractor who was previously involved in the project. This temporary arrangement aims to maintain progress on the £108 million development without a prolonged halt in construction.
The campus is set to house Cantonian High School, Riverbank School, and Woodlands High School, providing modern educational facilities for students. Cardiff Council emphasised its commitment to completing this crucial project despite the setbacks. Funding for the project comes from Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government, underscoring its importance to the community.
The council outlined a timeline that includes transferring contracts to a new partner and initiating a tender process to find a replacement contractor.
