Mum diagnosed with brain tumour after collapsing in gym car park

A 45-year-old mum, Max Wrathall, had her life changed forever when she collapsed in a gym car park after a spin class in November 2022, as reported by Wales Online. Max’s friends caught her during a seizure and an ambulance rushed her to the hospital. Initially sent home to rest, it was her friend’s instinct that brought her back to the GP, leading to the discovery of a 5cm tumour on her brain after CT and MRI scans.

Following the diagnosis, Max underwent surgery to remove the tumour at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Despite the severity of the operation, which involved drilling into her skull and removing a piece of bone to access the tumour, Max remained positive and focused on recovery. Her excellent fitness prior to the surgery played a crucial role in her healing process.

Max’s recovery journey has been challenging, with memory issues and the need to relearn basic tasks. However, supported by her loved ones and determined to make a difference, Max has embarked on a fundraising mission. Last year, cycling and bake sale events raised £5,900 for Brain Tumour Research. This year, she plans to participate in the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon to continue fundraising for the cause.

Max’s experience has reshaped her outlook on life, prompting her to embrace challenges and appreciate each day. Grateful for the support she received during her ordeal, she aims to raise awareness and funds to improve brain tumour survival rates. Her resilience and determination are an inspiration, driving her to make the most of every moment and give back to others facing similar struggles.

As Max prepares to participate in the Cardiff Half Marathon, she exemplifies courage and strength in the face of adversity. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance, community support, and the power of positivity in overcoming life’s toughest challenges.
