Registration for the famous Nos Galan Road Races in Mountain Ash on New Year’s Eve is set to open this month. The Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council has confirmed that registration for the races will begin on Monday, September 16 at 10 am. The spaces for the races will be released in stages to give everyone a fair chance of participating. The race categories include the elite men’s 5k, the elite women’s 5k, the fun run 5k (with fancy dress optional), and children’s races of various distances.
Each year, thousands of spectators gather to cheer on the runners. The event kicks off with the children’s races before the arrival of the celebrity mystery runner who carries the Nos Galan torch and lights the beacon in the town center. Past mystery runners have included Gareth Thomas and Laura McAllister, with guests such as Linford Christie and Nigel Owens attending in previous years.
