Peter Kay to make TV comedy return this Christmas

Peter Kay is set to make a much-anticipated return to television this Christmas, following a hiatus from the small screen in recent years. The beloved Boltonian, who recently re-emerged into the public eye after an extended break, will feature in the new Wallace and Gromit film Vengeance Most Fowl, taking on the role of Chief Inspector Macintosh.

The trailer for the forthcoming film gives fans of the animated duo a glimpse into their latest escapades. A recent spate of garden goods thefts has hit the region, with Wallace and his pre-programmed smart gnome, Norbot, becoming the prime suspects. Despite Wallace’s assertions of innocence, it falls to Gromit once again to combat the sinister forces at play.

The film also sees the return of Feathers McGraw, fresh out of prison and seeking revenge – his last appearance was in the 1993 BAFTA and Academy Award-winning short, The Wrong Trousers. Alongside Peter Kay, viewers can look forward to cameo appearances from Diane Morgan (Afterlife), Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton), Muzz Khan (Brassic), and Lenny Henry, reports the Mirror.

Peter Kay has made a triumphant return, much to the joy of his legion of fans. The beloved comedian is in the midst of his latest series of performances, with an impressive line-up of 110 shows planned for 2023, 2024, and 2025. Manchester’s AO Arena will host 40 of these dates.

After his previous tour was cancelled in 2018/19 due to “unforeseen family circumstances”, Peter was rarely seen in public. He surprised fans at a charity screening of Car Share in 2018 and was later seen on a Blackpool tram tour in April 2019. In April 2020, he featured in the BBC’s Big Night In, participating in the remake of Tony Christie’s Amarillo music video, and then made a comeback to live performance in April 2022 with a show in Manchester followed by dates in Liverpool.

The new Wallace and Gromit film will be shown on the BBC at Christmas. The emotional peak came in November 2022 when Peter was moved to tears during the first night of his first live comedy tour in over a decade. He received an extended standing ovation from the audience, who chanted his name as he stepped onto the stage. Visibly touched by the warm welcome, he leaned on a stool and wiped his eyes before addressing the crowd.

Peter cancelled his 2018/19 tour, issuing a heartfelt statement expressing: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects. This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.”

He continued with profound regret: “My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first. I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I’m very sorry.”
