Phone company urged to hand over data to help search for missing Jack O’Sullivan

Mobile operator EE is being urged to release phone data from the mobile of missing 23-year-old Jack O’Sullivan to aid the investigation into his disappearance. The young student, originally from Neath, vanished after departing a social gathering on Saturday, March 2 in Bristol.

Jack was spotted for likely the last time at 3.38am walking down Bennett Way slip road in Hotwells, making his way back towards the city centre. Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed the last sighting of him at 3.13am as he walked through a car park onto a green space beneath the Plimsoll Swing Bridge by Cumberland Basin.

The ‘Find Jack’ account shared an update on X, expressing frustration that EE is withholding the phone’s location data. Although the phone account is registered under Jack’s mother, Catherine, the social media post highlighted her inability to access this crucial information. In response to an inquiry, the account stated: “The problem is they are not sharing it and not saying why so that the legal team can challenge that decision.”

EE, when approached by Bristol Live for comment, provided a statement: “We’re aware of Jack’s case. This is a police matter so we currently can’t comment any further at this time.” Avon and Somerset Police have disclosed that in August they had been asked to produce a copy of phone data but cited legal barriers preventing its release.

Catherine O’Sullivan, 52, Jack’s mother, has declared her lack of faith in the police’s efforts to find her son. She has lodged a formal complaint with the IPCC and emphasized the family’s determination to pursue all leads themselves. Despite concerns over the police response, ACC Hall reassured the public of the ongoing commitment to locating Jack.

Amidst these developments, Catherine O’Sullivan and the family have engaged a professional dog search team and anticipate further searches, prompted by an area that piqued interest on the A370. Catherine shared her ongoing efforts to obtain phone data and expressed the family’s dedication to exploring every possible sighting.

The investigation into Jack O’Sullivan’s disappearance continues, with authorities considering various outcomes in their search efforts. The family remains hopeful for answers and remains actively involved in the search for Jack.
