In a mindless act of vandalism, a pitch used by hundreds of local football players has been wrecked by yobs riding quad bikes, as reported by Wales Online.
The damage at Cwmbwrla Park in Swansea has left the pitch condemned, leading local football teams to seek alternative venues for the remainder of the year. Plough Colts Football Club, one of the teams affected, discovered deep track marks on the field, disrupting fixtures for junior players, senior teams, and a mental health team they have partnered with. The club estimates that over 300 individuals will be impacted, including members of the wider community who use the park for various sports activities.
Nicky O’Connor, Chairman of Plough Colts Football Club, expressed dismay at the situation, revealing that Swansea Council has deemed the pitch unusable for the foreseeable future. The damage, caused by quad bikes ridden through the park, has raised concerns about the ease of access for such activities. O’Connor shared his disappointment, highlighting the significant impact on the club’s operations and the broader community’s sports engagement.
Efforts to restore the pitch are underway, with Plough Colts initiating a fundraising campaign to install protective fencing around the football pitches at Cwmbwrla Park.
