A police officer in Wales has been convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl and showing her pornographic videos. John Stringer, 41, a Gwent Police officer from Cardiff, was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault by touching, two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court.
The court heard that Stringer had sexually abused the victim, touching her inappropriately under a blanket and clothing. He also showed her pornographic videos and instructed her to mimic the actions shown. Prosecutors revealed Stringer had a significant interest in pornography, with over 4,000 searches on his phone related to various explicit categories. Stringer was described as having an “unhealthy fixation” with the victim, telling her he was lonely and wanted a girlfriend.
Following the guilty verdicts, Stringer was remanded in custody with sentencing scheduled for October 28.
