A popular street food and business hub in Barry, the Goodsheds, could soon have some exciting new additions. The company behind Goodsheds has submitted an application for a new distillery and spa to be located to the west of the existing site. The proposed development also includes plans for a marquee and multi-purpose hall.
According to a design and access statement on behalf of the applicants, the aim is to create an extension to the thriving complex that will enhance the overall Goodsheds experience. Since opening in August 2020, Goodsheds has become home to various businesses including street food vendors, a cafe, bar, record shop, and health and beauty shop. The hub was created by renovating a former railway goods building and adding nearby shipping containers.
The site has since expanded to include offices and accommodation, with the vision of offering visitors a diverse and unparalleled experience all in one place. The proposed new development would be built on previously-developed land next to a drive-through at the Goodsheds site. However, concerns have been raised by the Shared Regulatory Services (SRS) about potential contamination due to the site’s history as part of the former docklands.
In a related development just south of the proposed site, plans have been approved for a new Cardiff and Vale College campus as part of a £100m scheme to replace an existing site. The Barry Waterfront Campus will cater to up to 1,000 students and nearly 80 staff, offering various facilities including a hair and beauty salon and a student-run restaurant open to the public.
With these exciting potential developments on the horizon, the popular Goodsheds hub in Barry looks set to continue its growth as a dynamic and vibrant destination for visitors and businesses alike.
