A stranger, described as “like something possessed,” entered a dad-of-three’s home and launched a violent attack. The incident occurred in Carmel, Flintshire, where David Hamilton assaulted the victim in his own property. The 34-year-old perpetrator wrestled with the victim until the police intervened. Hamilton admitted to four offences, including assault causing actual bodily harm, during a court appearance at Mold Crown Court.
The court heard that on July 26, Hamilton entered The Boar’s Head pub in Holywell, despite being banned, and caused disturbance before leaving. Subsequently, on August 18, he entered a family’s home in Carmel through an unlocked door. Inside, he confronted homeowner Stephen Hunter, leading to a physical altercation during which Hamilton threw a brick at the property, causing damage.
During the sentencing, Hamilton received an 18-month suspended sentence for assault causing actual bodily harm. The judge highlighted the defendant’s abusive behaviour and commended Mr. Hunter’s family for their actions amidst the terrifying ordeal. Despite the seriousness of the incident, the court opted for a suspended sentence, considering Hamilton’s remorse, potential for rehabilitation, and the impact on his dependents.
Hamilton was also handed a two-month suspended sentence for attempted burglary and ordered to pay compensation to the victims. Additionally, he was required to wear an alcohol abstinence monitoring tag, attend rehabilitation activities, and complete a mental health treatment programme. A three-year ban from entering a specific street in Carmel was also imposed on him.
The judge empathised with the victims, acknowledging the fear they had experienced during the attack. He emphasised Hamilton’s aggression and the impact of his actions on the community. By opting for a suspended sentence and imposing stringent conditions, the court aimed to address Hamilton’s behaviour and provide support for his rehabilitation.
