A prisoner from HMP Parc in Bridgend was urgently taken to the hospital following an assault, escalating the concerns surrounding the jail’s safety. Recent reports suggest a series of violent incidents occurring within the facility administered by G4S. The assault on Tuesday resulted in the inmate sustaining head injuries, including temporary loss of vision in one eye. Despite requiring hospital treatment, the prisoner was returned to Parc within hours, as confirmed by a G4S spokeswoman who stated that the incident had been reported to the police for investigation. South Wales Police confirmed their inquiry into the assault.
This attack adds to the tumult at HMP Parc, taking place on the same prison wing where two inmates reportedly overdosed on a potent synthetic opioid over the weekend. Both individuals survived after consuming a substance believed to be spice laced with fentanyl. Following this, staff conducted early-morning drug searches in the affected wing. Last week, another Parc inmate was assaulted in his cell, leading to severe injuries as claimed by his family, who alleged that he was brutally beaten with a makeshift weapon, leaving him visibly bruised.
The prison’s troubles have been ongoing, culminating in the departure of former director Heather Whitehead due to rioting, multiple inmate fatalities, and allegations of rampant drug use and violence.
