The 34-year-old professional dancer shared her harrowing experience of battling sepsis following the premature birth of her daughter late last year. After enduring a 16-hour labour, her newborn faced health complications and spent six weeks in neonatal intensive care at University College London Hospital. Meanwhile, Oti herself was fighting sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition triggered by the body’s extreme response to an infection. Thankfully, both mother and baby eventually recovered.
Praising the National Health Service (NHS) for their care, Oti highlighted the crucial role of healthcare professionals in ensuring her daughter’s well-being. She emphasised the importance of early detection and prompt treatment in managing sepsis, noting that symptoms can sometimes be challenging to identify. Individuals with underlying health conditions, such as recent childbirth or premature birth, are at a higher risk of developing sepsis.
According to the NHS, recognising symptoms like confusion, discolouration of skin, and breathing difficulties is essential for early intervention. Swift action, including seeking emergency medical help, is crucial when signs of sepsis are present. While the return date for I’m a Celeb has not been confirmed, viewers can anticipate its broadcast in November.
