Strictly’s Tasha Ghouri opens up on ‘struggles’ as disability leaves her with ‘weird’ training routine

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tasha Ghouri has opened up about the challenges she faces in training due to her disability. Being the second deaf contestant on the show, following in the footsteps of Rose Ayling-Ellis, Tasha shared how she has had to adjust her training routine to accommodate her deafness.

Both Tasha and Rose have undergone cochlear implant surgery to use hearing aids, enabling them to participate in the competition. However, Tasha explained that despite the technology assisting her, there are still difficulties in keeping up with the music counts during training sessions. She shared that she feels the music’s base and beats but struggles with the timing of the counts, as they often do not align with the music’s rhythm.

Speaking at the National Television Awards, Tasha emphasised her unique way of training, stating, “I’m having to feel the music and play the sounds in my head. It’s a weird way, but that’s how my brain works.” Despite the challenges, Tasha expressed her admiration for Rose’s pioneering role in the competition, acknowledging her as a trailblazer.

Rose, who made headlines for being the first deaf contestant on Love Island following her ASOS modelling campaign, has paved the way for others in the entertainment industry. With a background in dance, including ballet and commercial streetstyle, Rose’s journey has been one of determination and success.

In the midst of her Strictly rehearsals, Rose also found love with fellow Love Island contestant Andrew Le Page, who has been supporting her outside of the dance competition. As Tasha and Rose continue to make their mark on the dance floor and beyond, their stories serve as inspirations to many facing similar challenges in pursuit of their dreams.
