A suspected freezer fire has caused an explosion in a family home, leaving a mum and her children with overwhelming support from their community. Louise Nash, a 39-year-old single parent, along with her children Ollie, eight, and Ariana, six, managed to escape just in time before the explosion occurred. The devastating incident left the family with no contents insurance to cover the loss of their possessions. In response to their plight, the community rallied together, donating £1,905 to help the family cover costs for furniture and household items.
The generosity shown to Louise and her children demonstrates the strong community spirit in the neighbourhood. Neighbours and friends not only provided financial support but also donated essential items to help the family cope with their situation. Trivallis, the housing association that owns the damaged house, has arranged for them to move into a three-bedroom home in Church Village permanently, allowing the children to have their own rooms.
Following the fire, Louise described the traumatic experience of hearing a sudden explosion after evacuating her children from the house. The fire service indicated that the fire likely originated from the freezer under the stairs. Louise expressed her reluctance to return to the house due to the harrowing memories of the incident.
The incident has left Louise and her children temporarily staying with her mother until they can move into their new home.
