TalkSport has issued a statement regarding Jermaine Jenas’s future following his sacking from the BBC due to workplace conduct complaints. According to reports, Jenas will not be appearing on TalkSport in the immediate future. The former Premier League player had begun co-presenting a TalkSport drive-time show with Jermaine Pennant shortly after news of his removal from all BBC presenting line-ups broke.
A spokesperson from TalkSport informed The Sun newspaper that they were made aware of the breaking story about Jenas as he was going on air. It was decided, along with Jenas, that he would continue to present the show, but there are currently no plans for him to broadcast on TalkSport in the near future. Despite his sacking, Jenas did not discuss the news during the live broadcast and left the News UK building after the show via car.
While Jenas’s appearance on Friday’s TalkSport drive-time show has been cancelled, the former England footballer expressed his dissatisfaction with the dismissal in an interview with TalkSport News. He mentioned that there are two sides to every story and that he would be consulting his lawyers about the situation. Jenas refrained from providing further details about the complaints against him or his future plans in the industry.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed that Jenas is no longer part of their presenting line-up following issues raised concerning digital communications. The 41-year-old earned between £190,000 to £194,999 for his work with the FA Cup, Match of the Day, and the World Cup at the BBC. He also appeared as a stand-in co-host on The One Show and was a regular pundit on sports programs such as Match of the Day. Despite his various roles, Jenas’s future in sports presenting remains uncertain.
A natural successor to replace Gary Lineker as host of Match of the Day, Jenas has enjoyed a successful career both as a footballer and media personality. Currently, he is not expected to appear on TNT Sports for several weeks. TNT Sports, where he occasionally features in football coverage, was reportedly unaware of his employment status with the BBC.
Additionally, Jenas’s agency MC Saatchi has ceased to represent him, further complicating his professional situation. While his future in sports presenting remains uncertain, the former footballer is seeking legal counsel to address the recent developments in his career. With various unanswered questions surrounding his dismissal and future prospects, Jenas’s next steps in the industry remain uncertain.
