Nichola King, a distraught mother, recently captured a terrifying photo of her son, Cesar, as paramedics performed CPR on him after he went into cardiac arrest from attempting the deadly ‘chroming’ social media trend. The incident occurred on August 21 while Nichola was upstairs finishing breastfeeding her two-year-old baby. Upon hearing a loud noise from the kitchen, she rushed downstairs to find Cesar having a seizure on the floor. Panicked, she called for her other children to assist while performing CPR on her 12-year-old son, and her eldest contacted emergency services.
Cesar was swiftly taken to the hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma for two days due to experiencing seizures and cardiac arrest. Shocking images shared by Nichola show paramedics administering chest compressions in an effort to save him, followed by pictures of Cesar in a coma in intensive care with tubes in his mouth. Police later informed Nichola that a can of Aldi Lacura anti-perspirant was found near where Cesar collapsed, indicating he had inhaled the substance as part of the dangerous chroming trend.
Chroming involves inhaling toxic chemicals like solvents or aerosols to achieve a short-term ‘high’, but it can result in severe consequences such as heart attacks or suffocation. Fortunately, Cesar made a full recovery after spending eight days in the hospital. Reflecting on the ordeal, Nichola emphasises the importance of parents being aware of such risky challenges and stresses the need for first-aid training to potentially save lives in similar emergencies.
Following the incident, Nichola expressed relief at Cesar’s recovery and gratitude for the medical intervention that saved her son’s life. She hopes that by sharing her family’s harrowing experience, she can raise awareness about the dangers of engaging in harmful social media trends. Aldi declined to comment on the incident, which serves as a poignant reminder of the risks associated with online challenges and the crucial role of parental awareness and emergency response in safeguarding children from harm.
