‘That image haunts me every night’ The powerful words of murdered man’s sister

The devastated sister of a murder victim has described the trauma of having to identify her brother’s body in a powerful impact statement. Conall Evans, 30, was found seriously injured near the Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda Hospital car park in Tonypandy on New Year’s Day and later pronounced dead due to a stab wound. During the sentencing, it was revealed that Mr Evans was murdered by his lifelong friend Ashley Davies, 30, who stabbed him through the lung and heart, callously texting him “better luck next time.”

Ashley Davies, of Forge Road, Pentre, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 26 years for the murder and possession of a bladed article. The victim’s sister, Elise Evans, delivered a heartbreaking impact statement during the hearing, expressing the family’s profound anguish. She recounted the pain of losing her brother, stating, “What has happened to our family is beyond words. We are shattered, heartbroken, and consumed by pain which feels impossible to bear.”

Elise continued to share the harrowing moment of having to identify her brother’s lifeless body, a haunting image that torments her every night. The family released a tribute in memory of Mr Evans, describing the profound loss they are enduring. They expressed their devastation at losing a cherished brother, son, uncle, and friend, highlighting Conall’s vibrant personality and the irreplaceable gap his absence has left in their lives.

The family thanked South Wales Police for their efforts in bringing the perpetrator to justice and extended gratitude to the individuals who provided support during this challenging time. Detective Inspector David Butt and detective constable Joanne Ferguson were recognised for their assistance throughout the legal process. The family also acknowledged their legal representative, Mr. Mike Jones KC, for his role in pursuing justice for Conall and the family.

Concluding the statement, the family reiterated their everlasting love for Conall and the enduring impact he has had on those who knew him.
