Loyal customers of a local Cardiff shop have demonstrated incredible community spirit by forming a 70-strong human chain to assist in the shop’s relocation. The heartwarming scene took place at Iechyd Da, a self-serve wholefood shop in Whitchurch, as it moved to new premises mere hundreds of yards away on Merthyr Road. Owner Alwen Lewis issued a call for help, and customers responded generously by aiding her and her staff in transferring over 200 boxes of stock and equipment to the new location. The efficient teamwork saw the task completed in just an hour on a Sunday morning.
Alwen expressed her gratitude, stating, “Nearly 70 people turned up and passed 258 boxes from shop to shop all in an hour – amazing. I can’t believe how kind and supportive everyone is, and I feel overwhelmed and grateful.” The shop’s relocation signifies a new chapter for Iechyd Da as it expands its offerings to include gifts alongside its wholefood re-fills. The shop, a fixture on Merthyr Road for the past five years, is set to open its doors at the larger premises located at 37 Merthyr Road the following week.
Iechyd Da operates as a self-serve health food shop where customers can refill containers with the produce they purchase. The outpouring of community support demonstrated through the human chain event exemplifies the strength of unity and camaraderie in the local area. Alwen Lewis is looking forward to serving the community at the new and improved premises, providing a broader range of products to cater to the customers’ needs. The heartwarming gesture of the human chain underscores the power of coming together to support local businesses, fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness within the neighbourhood.
