A thug, Keelan Parsons, 21, fractured his girlfriend’s jaw after a violent assault in Treorchy. The incident occurred when the couple, heavily intoxicated, started arguing on a bus returning to Porth following a meal out. The situation escalated when Parsons accused his girlfriend of infidelity. The bus driver had to intervene to separate them due to their disruptive behaviour. Subsequently, after briefly parting ways, the couple met again at a petrol station in Syphon Street.
Parsons then pulled his girlfriend to the floor, preventing her from fleeing, and proceeded to kick her in the head and mouth while she was down. When she tried to call the police, he took her phone and walked away. Later, he returned, crouched over her, and delivered multiple punches to her head and stomach. In the aftermath of the attack, the victim sustained a fractured jawbone and bruises to her abdomen.
Appearing at Cardiff Crown Court, Parsons pleaded guilty to wounding inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. His defence lawyer, Clare Wilks, described the assault as uncharacteristic behaviour resulting from difficulties in coping with life after a previous long-term relationship ended. The court was informed that the victim withdrew her support for the prosecution, leading Parsons to plead guilty promptly.
Recorder Christian Jowett sentenced Parsons to 17 months’ imprisonment, with a requirement to serve half the term in custody before being released on licence. The court noted Parsons’ previous good conduct. The victim’s injuries and the brutal nature of the attack outlined during the trial underscored the severe impact of domestic violence within relationships.
