Tomatoes have been found growing in the guttering of a leak-hit Welsh hospital, highlighting its shocking state. Wales Online reported that several leaks and damaged ceilings were recently reported at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. Urgent repairs have been underway after rainwater leaked into the building, necessitating the relocation of some patients and non-urgent appointments.
The leaks were attributed to heavy rain hitting an already damaged section of the hospital’s roof over the weekend, causing ceilings to suffer damage. A member of the public captured an image showing the severely overgrown guttering filled with grass, weeds, and even a tomato plant sprouting. The image has raised concerns about the maintenance standards of the hospital.
In response to the public’s observation, the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board stated that clearing the foliage from the guttering is now a priority. The board emphasised the complexity of accessing certain areas of the roof for maintenance and expressed gratitude for patients’ cooperation and understanding during the ongoing maintenance work.
