Transport for Wales has reported that their services have shown improvement, with an increase in the number of trains operating across the country. The company stated that they have made “significant progress” over the past year, leading to better reliability and punctuality of their services. According to newly released figures from the Office of Rail and Road, Transport for Wales saw the most significant improvement in punctuality in the UK, with an increase of 8.1% and a reduction in cancellations by 3.2% compared to the previous year.
In the period from April to June 2024, Transport for Wales also recorded a substantial 26.7% rise in the number of planned trains compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, customer satisfaction with the rail service has increased to 88%, marking a 16% rise over the last 12 months, according to data from Transport Focus.
Colin Lea, the Planning and Performance Director at Transport for Wales, attributed the improved service to the introduction of their new £800 million fleet of trains. He mentioned that the completion of significant engineering work on the Core Valleys Lines as part of the South Wales Metro project has also contributed to the enhanced performance. Lea added that the company has expanded services on various routes, providing customers with more travel options.
While acknowledging the need for further enhancements, Transport for Wales assured customers that more new trains and increased service frequency are in the pipeline for the coming years to deliver even better service quality. The company expressed commitment to ongoing improvements and customer satisfaction, aiming to build on the progress achieved so far. Transport for Wales’ dedication to enhancing the rail network and providing a reliable and punctual service reflects their response to customer needs and expectations.
