Cardiff is mourning the loss of its Lord Mayor, Councillor Jane Henshaw, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family over the weekend. The council announced her passing, highlighting her dedication to public service. Flags across the city will fly at half-mast in her honour. Henshaw, who became Lord Mayor in May, chose Cardiff Food Bank as her nominated charity due to her passion for the cause. Cardiff Council praised her unwavering dedication to the community and her compassionate service.
Council leader, Councillor Huw Thomas, expressed deep sorrow at the loss, emphasising Henshaw’s tireless advocacy for the city and its residents. Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Helen Lloyd Jones, described Henshaw as a beacon of hope and kindness, highlighting her inspirational commitment to helping those in need. Chief executive, Paul Orders, remembered Henshaw for her kindness, grace, and support for staff.
Councillor Henshaw represented the Splott ward and had been an active Labour councillor since 2017. During her tenure, she focused on improving local infrastructure, supporting community projects, and promoting inclusivity. Henshaw was particularly dedicated to addressing food insecurity and poverty in the community. Her family, including her partner, children, and grandchildren, thanked the medical staff for their care. A private funeral will be followed by a Memorial Service to honour her legacy.
