Residents of the Rhandir Mwyn estate in Caernarfon, Wales, have embraced their community despite facing online criticism that compared the estate to a prisoner of war camp. Dismissing the negative comments likening the new housing development to barracks from a WWII film, residents of the estate near Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen school have spoken out about their positive experiences living there.
In response to the derogatory remarks, one resident, who opted to remain anonymous, expressed love for the estate and its community spirit, highlighting the improvement in their quality of life compared to their previous accommodation. Another resident, Lisa, praised the camaraderie among neighbours, reflecting a sentiment of contentment and satisfaction with their living situation.
Acknowledging some jealousy may be driving the negative online feedback, residents pointed out the desirable features of the estate, including ample parking space, electric car charging facilities, and solar panels for sustainability. Despite some limitations like the lack of designated play areas for children, residents find solace in the close-knit community they have fostered.
Local councillor Dawn Lynne Jones commended Rhandir Mwyn for setting a high standard in housing construction, advocating for more similar developments to address housing shortages. Adra housing association echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in creating a thriving community and emphasising the importance of positive interactions over unwarranted criticisms.
