Selina Dalglish, from Salford, has criticised TUI following a distressing ordeal during her birthday trip, where she alleges a bedbug entered her friend’s ear at a cost of £1,300 to Majorca. The pair encountered ‘little red bugs’ and bloodstains on the sheets at the Sol Katmandu Park and Resort in Magaluf. After raising the issue with the hotel, staff acknowledged the presence of bedbugs, prompting the women to take extensive measures to eliminate the infestation.
Departing from Manchester Airport on September 14, the holiday initially seemed perfect, but things took a turn when Selina noticed a bite mark on her arm on Monday, September 16. Believing it to be a mosquito bite, she dismissed it until she discovered a bug in the bathroom. On her birthday morning, her friend felt something crawling in her ear, leading to the discovery of more bugs in the bed and bloodstains from squashing them. The pair reported the incident to reception and underwent a rigorous process to rid their belongings of the pests.
Despite being relocated to another room, the unsettling experience cast a shadow over the remainder of their holiday. Selina expressed how the situation ruined their trip as they couldn’t shake off the unease caused by the infestation. In response to the complaint, TUI offered a compensation of £50, which Selina found inadequate given the substantial cost of the trip. A subsequent offer of a £100 voucher was made, but the complaint was closed before she could accept it.
Both TUI and the Sol Katmandu Park and Resort declined to comment when approached by the Manchester Evening News. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges travellers may face, underscoring the importance of awareness and proactive measures to address such situations promptly.
