Supermarkets are rolling out a variety of delicious treats and accompaniments to create the perfect Christmas dinner. Good Housekeeping’s annual Christmas Taste Test has crowned Aldi as the top UK supermarket for taste this Christmas, beating out rivals like Tesco, M&S, and Waitrose. A panel of food experts rigorously tested 730 products from 98 brands to determine Aldi’s superiority in 2024.
Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Premier Cru Champagne was a standout product, named Best Champagne for its exceptional taste and reasonable price of £22, outshining more expensive options from other competitors. Additionally, Aldi’s mince pies were praised for their “soft, flaky pastry” and “sweet caramelised fruit filling,” securing the title of best-tasting mince pies. Priced at just 38p each or £2.29 for a box of six, these mince pies offer a budget-friendly and delicious option for shoppers this festive season.
Aldi’s Specially Selected Roly Poly Whole Turkey also impressed the judges, winning Best Whole Turkey for its “natural sweet flavour” and impressive “umami depth.” Furthermore, Aldi’s Ultimate Five-Year Vintage Cheddar Bake was named the best vegetarian starter and will be available for purchase at £5.99 from December 6. To top off the Christmas feast, Aldi’s Specially Selected Orange and Maple Pudding, priced at £9.99, claimed the title for best flavoured Christmas pudding, praised for its rich sweetness.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, expressed delight over the recognition, stating, “From starters to desserts and even the bubbly, we’ve got every course covered with awards, and we are delighted to be named Best Overall Grocer.” Aldi’s success extends beyond the festive season, as the chain has also been named the UK’s cheapest supermarket by Which? for the 11th consecutive month.
