BBC Radio 2 has provided an update regarding Zoe Ball’s protracted absence from her regular breakfast show slot. The much-loved DJ, aged 53, hasn’t graced the airwaves since August 8, with Scott Mills and Gaby Roslin filling in during her time away.
Listeners had only just welcomed Zoe back from a break when she disappeared again after four days, her spot filled for the last five weeks. On August 12, stand-in host Scott Mills told listeners: “If you’ve just put us on this morning, it’s Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I’m sending you all my love Zo’ as are the team.”
Amidst swirling rumours about her return to the show, the BBC addressed fans’ concerns, confirming that “Zoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.” Despite this confirmation, speculation persists online, especially since the Radio 2 website lists Scott Mills as the host for the September 9 broadcast.
A watchful Twitter user remarked: “Scott is doing the breakfast show again next week in for Zoe.” reports the MEN. This comment led to further assumptions, with the tweet reading: “That’s now 5 weeks that he’s covered for her. I feel an announcement is coming that Scott will have the breakfast show full-time. In April, Zoe took time off work to announce the death of her mother, Julia Peckham, who sadly died from advanced pancreatic cancer at 75. Billy Yates, an Antiques Roadshow cameraman, tragically took his own life in 2017 when he was only 40, during his relationship with Zoe.
