Well-known Welsh beach left looking like a ‘sandy Scalextric’

A beach in north Wales has recently undergone an unusual makeover, leaving behind striking patterns of lines and ridges on the sand. These intriguing images of Barmouth beach in Gwynedd, captured by local photographer Dominic Vacher, led to quite the buzz online, with one social media user likening it to “sunny sands Scalextric”.

Despite any wild speculations about alien activity or extraordinary weather events, the reason behind this transformation is actually down to the imminent Barmouth Beach Race. Vacher said, “Barmouth Beach got a bit of a re-design today in preparation for the motocross this weekend. The beautiful sunset really helps show off its curves.”

The Barmouth Beach Race, an annual event organized by Wilden MXC, invites motocross enthusiasts for a thrilling weekend featuring bikes and quads racing on a specially constructed two-mile track along the beach in front of the Barmouth RNLI Station. The event’s organisers, What’s On Barmouth, said, “It’s a real ‘thrills and spills’ event that takes place on a two-mile beach track in front of Barmouth RNLI Station, that is built especially for the occasion and removed after the event.

Races are scheduled throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday and include Junior and Seniors races, fought extremely hard by all the competitors who want to win this coveted and prestigious race. Come along and see this magnificent spectacle and enjoy the unique atmosphere created on one of the few beach races held in the UK.”

This unusual transformation of the beach has piqued the interest of locals and online followers, showcasing the creativity and excitement surrounding the upcoming Barmouth Beach Race. The stunning images captured by Dominic Vacher have brought attention to this unique event, bringing a touch of thrill and adventure to the serene sands of Barmouth beach in Wales.
