The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland have issued a warning about forthcoming wide-ranging product recalls and warnings after a contamination issue in production. The agencies have been collaborating with food businesses and Local Authorities to investigate mustard ingredients that may have been contaminated with peanuts, posing a serious risk to those with peanut allergies. As part of the investigation, the company FGS Ingredients Limited, which imports mustard for spice products like curry powders and seasonings from India, has voluntarily recalled all affected products.
This recall encompasses spices and blends used in items such as ready meals and snacks. The FSA anticipates issuing a series of recalls in the upcoming days. Rebecca Sudworth, Director of Policy at the FSA, highlighted that only products from FGS Ingredients Limited are affected, not all mustard imports from India. The advice for individuals with peanut allergies is to avoid consuming any food containing mustard ingredients until all recalls are completed.
Consumers are urged to report any allergic reactions potentially linked to the investigation to the relevant food business and local authority where the product was purchased. Detailed product information has been provided, including brand names, pack sizes, batch codes, and best before dates for affected items like Chef Select Takeaway Garlic and Herb Dip, Mr Vikki’s Hot Stuff Chilli Sauce, and various curry powders and seasoning products from different brands.
The FSA emphasises the importance of staying informed through allergy alerts and following updates on the ongoing investigation. The agencies are actively working with businesses, local authorities, and agencies to ensure consumer safety. Until all affected products have been removed from the market, individuals with peanut allergies are advised to avoid any products containing mustard ingredients.
