A widower has criticised the NHS after it failed to detect his wife’s cancer, resulting in her untimely death. Ron Peacock shared his anguish over the misdiagnosis that led to the passing of his wife, Eileen Peacock, who tragically lost her battle with lung cancer at the age of 72. The chain of events began when Eileen sought medical attention at Hull Royal Infirmary for chest pains. Scans revealed a concerning ‘density’ between her ribs that warranted further investigation. However, the severity of her condition went unnoticed, and it wasn’t until Eileen developed a persistent chesty cough that the cancer was finally identified.
Ron expressed his deep disappointment, stating that the oversight robbed Eileen of precious time and dashed their dreams of a peaceful retirement together. He highlighted the emotional turmoil his wife endured after realising the gravity of the negligence and the impact it had on her livelihood and passions, including caring for her horse, Casper.
