A woman in Wales begged a policeman for help as her boyfriend strangled her on a beach and spat in her face. The incident occurred near Happy Valley Caravan Park in Porthcawl. Ryan Creed, 26, assaulted the victim by strangling her and punching an officer who came to her aid. The victim described the look in her attacker’s eyes as “terrifying”. Creed, who was tasered and arrested, pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, assault, and possession of cannabis.
During a sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court, it was revealed that Creed had a history of domestic violence. The victim recounted being strangled with two hands and spat at multiple times. When police arrived at the scene, the victim urgently sought help, but Creed resisted arrest and assaulted the officer. Creed had prior convictions for similar offences, including strangling a former partner.
In mitigation, Creed’s difficult childhood and mental health issues were cited. He had been in care since the age of six and struggled with conditions like ADHD and autism. Despite self-medicating with drugs, he now regrets his actions and is undergoing treatment. Judge Daniel Williams sentenced Creed to two years in prison, with half to be served in custody and the remainder on licence.
The courtroom heard how Creed’s victim feared for her life during the attack. The judge noted that Creed’s intention was to terrify his victim, highlighting the severity of his actions.
