A woman walking her dog in Wales was attacked by a pack of bloodhounds from a local hunt group, as reported by Wales Online. Emily Spencer and her spaniel Piper were on a walk in Alltwen, Swansea valleys when the hounds belonging to Banwen Miners’ Bloodhounds suddenly attacked them. Spencer sustained serious injuries, including multiple bites to her hands, while Piper was also bitten. Fortunately, a passing doctor intervened, potentially saving Piper’s life.
The incident involving Banwen Miners’ Bloodhounds is not an isolated one, as a similar attack was reported last year. Maddie Dunning recounted a similar experience where hounds from the group attacked her and her dog. When questioned about the safety of their dogs, a spokesman for the group mentioned they had put down multiple dogs following the recent incident.
During the attack, Spencer described how the hounds pounced on Piper, leading her to shield the dog from further harm. Both Spencer and Piper required medical treatment, with Piper enduring 11 puncture wounds. The aftermath of the attack left Spencer unable to work for two weeks as she cared for Piper’s recovery.
Banwen Miners’ Bloodhounds responded, stating that they were unaware of the severity of the incident until later and have attempted to reach out to Spencer for clarification. Despite their account, Spencer emphasised the need for accountability and responsibility in handling such incidents. The group has since put down the hounds involved.
Spencer’s recount of the attack sheds light on the potential risks posed by uncontrolled hounds during hunting activities. The public outcry following these incidents highlights the importance of ensuring the safety of both individuals and their pets while out in public spaces.
