Aldi will be expanding its presence in the UK by opening 23 new shops as part of an £800 million investment plan. The supermarket chain will be investing in new locations such as Muswell Hill in London and Caterham in Surrey. This move marks Aldi’s largest ever annual investment programme, with a two-year plan totalling £1.4 billion. Additionally, the company plans to refurbish 100 existing stores, expand its network of distribution centres, and update its technology infrastructure to support growth.
With over 1,000 stores currently in operation, Aldi aims to reach a total of 1,500 stores across the UK. The announcement coincided with the release of Aldi’s latest annual results, showing a sales increase of £2.4 billion to £17.9 billion, representing a 16% growth – the highest period of sales growth for the company. Aldi’s market share now stands at 10%.
The retailer reported a pre-tax profit of £536.7 million, attributing this increase to record sales and operational efficiencies. Aldi highlighted its commitment to price reductions, with nearly £100 million invested in over 300 price cuts in the past three months. Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, expressed the company’s dedication to meeting customer demands and expanding its reach.
Hurley stated, “For every £1 of profit generated last year, we’re investing £2 this year – opening more stores and building the supply infrastructure to bring high-quality, affordable groceries to millions more families across Britain.” The investment will also support price cuts, employee incentives, community initiatives, job creation, and opportunities for British suppliers and farmers.
As the festive season approaches, Aldi is gearing up to launch its largest seasonal range with premium products at competitive prices. The expansion and investment plans are expected to further solidify Aldi’s position as a top choice for UK consumers.
