The RSPCA has issued a warning after a peculiar sight of a bright blue pigeon has left residents in Maidenhead, Berkshire puzzled. The vibrant blue pigeon, with pink and yellow colours on the inside of its wings, was photographed by Simon Bryson, 35, who described it as unique and impressive. Speculations arose about the bird being spray-dyed, but experts believe it may have been part of a ‘gender reveal’ stunt, where dye and paints are potentially harmful to birds.
Rebecca Machin from the RSPCA’s wildlife team expressed concerns about the trend of dyeing animals, noting the toxicity of such substances to birds and other animals. She highlighted the risks of birds ingesting these chemicals while trying to clean their feathers. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by social media-driven trends that may harm wildlife.
Residents reacted with curiosity and concern upon seeing the blue pigeon, prompting discussions on local social media platforms. Despite the intrigue, experts urge individuals not to follow such practices, emphasising the importance of protecting animals from potentially harmful substances. The incident sheds light on the need for responsible behaviour towards wildlife, safeguarding their well-being and habitats.
