Asda has made a significant change to its loyalty app that is expected to result in significant savings for customers. The Cashpot for Schools initiative, launched as part of the Asda Rewards loyalty programme, aims to provide millions of pounds to primary schools. Recent data shows that schools are facing funding shortages, leading to parents being asked to donate money, with some spending up to £138 per year to support their children’s schools.
Through the Cashpot for Schools program, shoppers can support their chosen primary school by using the Asda Rewards app. Customers are required to select their preferred primary school within the app and ensure they scan it every time they shop. Asda will then donate 0.5% of the basket value to the selected school. Each school registered for the initiative will receive an initial £50 from Asda, and an extra £1 will be added to the school pot for every new customer signing up. The supermarket anticipates that approximately £500 will be raised for each participating school.
Leading the campaign is primary school PE advocate, fitness expert, and father of four, Joe Wicks, who emphasised the positive impact Cashpot for Schools will have on children nationwide. David Hills, Chief Customer Officer at Asda, expressed pride in launching Cashpot for Schools to support families by offering direct cash to primary schools across the country. The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on parents and provide an opportunity for families to fundraise simply by shopping at Asda.
Wales Online reported the news, highlighting the positive response to the scheme as a way to support local communities and schools. As more customers engage with the Asda Rewards app, the potential savings and contributions to schools are expected to grow. This initiative demonstrates Asda’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting education through innovative solutions such as the Cashpot for Schools program.
